Hawks hold off Missouri S&T for nail-biting five-set win

Rockhurst scored the last three points in the fifth set to post a 3-2 victory over Missouri S&T (25-20, 16-25, 25-22, 21-25, 16-14) on Senior Day Saturday at Mason-Halpin Field House.

The Hawks , 27-6 overall, finished fourth in the GLVC with a 14-4 record. Alyssa Woodman led the Hawks with 19 kills and 19 digs. Karli Reichert tallied 17 kills and 11 digs. Mary Rolf totaled nine kills and five blocks.

Kalie Arnold collected a career-high 51 digs. Dani Prusha finished with 48 assists and 15 digs. Emma Kriete added 11 digs and four blocks.

Set One: Rockhurst 25, Missouri S&T 20
The Hawks scored the last five points of the set. Reichert and Woodman combined for seven kills.

Set Two: Missouri S&T 25, Rockhurst 16
The Miners went on a 6-0 run to take a 19-11 lead. Woodman and Matio combined for seven kills.

Set Three: Rockhurst 25, Missouri S&T 22
Two kills by Reichert gave the Hawks a 23-21 lead. Woodman had a team-high six kills.

Set Four: Missouri S&T 25, Rockhurst 21

The Miners ended the set on a 9-2 run to rally from a 19-16 deficit. Reichert and Woodman combined for seven kills and nine digs.

With S&T serving for the match holding a 14-13 lead, Karli Reichert gave the Hawks a 15-14 lead with two kills of her five kills in the final set. The clinching point came on a bad set by the Miners.

Player of the Match

Kalie Arnold. The senior libero played one of her best matches of the season in her final home match. She averaged 10.2 digs per set with a high of 13 digs in the third set.

Rockhurst finished 56 kills, 115 digs and 12 team blocks.

• The Hawks will be the No. 4 seed in the GLVC Tournament and will play Indianapolis in the quarterfinals of the GLVC Tournament on Thursday in East Peoria, Illinois.
• Head coach Tracy Rietzke increased his career wins total to 1,239. The all-time winningest coach in NCAA Division II ranks fourth in career wins for all three NCAA levels.
