Hawks hit the road to begin conference play

The Rockhurst women's basketball team opens GLVC play with a pair of road games, at Truman State (Thursday at 5:30 p.m.) and at Quincy (Saturday at 1:00 p.m.)

The Hawks are 3-1 on the season with wins over Adams State (82-79), Saint Mary (92-56) and Avila (106-63), with the lone loss coming against Washburn (69-49).

Coach Larry Park's team ranks second in the GLVC in scoring at 82.2 points per game. Junior guards Madeline Ronshausen (17.0 pg) and Lauren Krissman (16.3 pg) have led the Rockhurst attack thus far. Ronshausen and Krissman rank fifth and sixth in the league, respectively, in scoring. Krissman currently leads the conference in three-point percentage and had the hot hand in the Hawks' previous game against Avila, pouring in 30 points on 11-for-12 from the floor and 6-for-6 from beyond the arc.

Rachel Holden has given the Hawks good minutes from the center position, averaging 6.3 points and a team-high 5.3 rebounds per game.

Truman State will be a tough test for the Hawks on Thursday. The Bulldogs enter the matchup with a record of 6-1 and will be looking to rebound from their first loss of the season last Saturday against Lindenwood (94-83). TSU features a balanced attack with six players averaging seven or more points per game, led by guard Brooke Bailey (11.9 pg) and center Katie Jaseckas (11.6 pg).

Saturday will be a battle of the Hawks as Rockhurst visits Quincy. The Hawks from Quincy, Illinois are 2-4 on the season and take on William Jewell Thursday before hosting Rockhurst on Saturday. After a tough 0-4 start, Quincy carries momentum into this weekend with back-to-back wins over Missouri Western (59-45) and Hannibal-LaGrange University (92-49). Sophomore guard Maddie Spagnola leads Quincy in scoring at 12.2 points per game. Quincy has been stout defensively this season, holding opponents to 59.8 points per game.

The games will be streaming on glvcsn.com and the GLVCSN mobile app. Live stats will be available here on rockhursthawks.com.
