Hawks are No. 2 seed in Midwest Region Crossover

The 11th annual Midwest Region Volleyball Crossover Tournament, the nation's largest collegiate volleyball tournament, will be held at the Academy Volleyball Club in Indianapolis, Indiana on Oct. 12-13. The Rockhurst Hawks are the No. 2 seed from the GLVC and will play three matches over two days.

The 10th-ranked Hawks (20-2, 10-1 GLVC) open play on Friday at 10:30 a.m. against fourth-seeded Saginaw Valley (14-5, 8-3 GLIAC). Rockhurst will face fourth-seeded Walsh (12-8, 9-3 GMAC) at 3:30 pm on Friday and second-seeded Michigan Tech (16-3, 10-1 GLIAC) at 12 p.m.

"Saginaw Valley is doing well, Walsh is having a good year and Michigan Tech will be the toughest opponent since they are ranked 25th in the country. We will have three tough games. That is what you expect when you come to the Crossover," said Rockhurst coach Tracy Rietzke.

The regional volleyball event will feature 14 Great Lakes Valley Conference teams, 12 institutions representing the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and 12 programs from the Great Midwest Athletic Conference.

Rockhurst posted a 3-0 record at the 2017 Midwest Region Crossover in Aurora, Illinois. The Hawks are 22-8 all-time at the Crossover.

The two-day tournament will feature 54 matches conducted on 10 courts throughout six sessions at one of the top volleyball facilities in the country. The event, designed to increase competition between teams from the three leagues in the NCAA Division II Midwest Region, has previously been held in Indianapolis, Indiana and Lansing, Michigan.
