The Rockhurst women's basketball team dropped their exhibition season opener Saturday afternoon at Southeast Missouri State, 78-51.
Briahtia Sebek and
Mary Leigh Rock led the Hawks in scoring with nine points apiece.
Cassidy Moss and
Tracy Monahan each added seven points.
Madeline Ronshausen led the way in assists with three. Ronshausen and
Kaci German each collected a team-high four rebounds.
The Hawks held their own early with Division I SEMO, opening up an 11-7 lead in the first quarter. The Redhawks responded with a 14-0 run to go up 21-11 and took control. Rockhurst trailed 43-26 at the half.
SEMO maintained that 17-point margin at 49-32, but the Hawks showed some fight with a 9-3 run to trim the lead to 11 at 52-41. It was all Redhawks after that, as the home team scored 26 of the last 36 points.
Player of the Game: Mary Leigh Rock. The junior forward from Lewisville, Texas was efficient, scoring nine points on three shots (2-for-3 from the field, 1-for-2 on threes, 4-for-6 on free throws).
