Weekend Preview: Soccer hits the road for GLVC Tournament

Swann Vincent and the Hawks look to keep their season alive Sunday at Southern Indiana
The Rockhurst men's soccer team (7-7-2, 6-5-2 GLVC) take on Southern Indiana (13-2-1, 11-1-1 GLVC) in the first round of the GLVC Tournament Sunday in Evansville, Indiana. The match will be at approximately 2:30 p.m. following the USI women's game.

The Screaming Eagles are the regular season GLVC champions and thus the top seed in the conference tournament. They enter the postseason in very good form, having won five straight matches. Rockhurst earned a berth as the No. 8 seed after back-to-back wins over McKendree and Drury.

The Hawks and Eagles met just last Friday in Evansville, resulting in a 2-1 USI win. This is the first time since 2014 Rockhurst hasn't hosted its first round match in the GLVC Tournament.

Women's Soccer visits McKendree in GLVC tourney
The Hawks (9-7-1, 8-5 GLVC) travel to Lebanon, Illinois for a first round GLVC Tournament matchup with the McKendree Bearcats (13-3-1, 9-3-1 GLVC) Sunday at noon.

McKendree was one of three teams to post a conference-best 9-3-1 record in GLVC play and is the No. 2 seed in the tournament by way of tiebreakers.

Winning eight league games led by a potent offense, Rockhurst is the No. 7 seed. The Hawks tallied a GLVC-best 28 goals in their 13 conference matches. McKendree scored 14 goals, but had the league's best defense allowing just six goals in conference play.

The high-flying Hawks offense, led by junior forward Stephanie Ostrander who leads the league in goals (12) and points (28), will try to crack to code of the stingy Bearcats defense.

If the men or women advance past the quarterfinals this weekend, the semifinals and finals are in Louisville on Nov. 2 and 4.

Volleyball looks to heat up for stretch run
With five regular season matches remaining, Rockhurst (23-5, 11-3 GLVC) is on the road this weekend for a St. Louis double dip. The 23rd-ranked Hawks travel to Missouri-St. Louis (12-13, 5-9 GLVC) Friday night at 7 p.m. The Hawks then head to Maryville (6-20, 0-14 GLVC) on Saturday at 3 p.m.

After a tough road trip last weekend, the Hawks rebounded nicely, sweeping Truman State on Tuesday to notch their 23rd win of the season.
