The Rockhurst women's soccer team defeated Drury 3-1 Wednesday night at Bourke Field to close out the regular season.
After a scoreless first half, the Hawks drew first blood in the 62nd minute.
Stephanie Ostrander headed home a corner kick from
Cathy Rometti.
The Rometti to Ostrander connection struck again just moments later as Ostrander, the GLVC leader in goals and points, found the back of the net with a header off a corner kick to put the home team up 2-0 in the 65th minute.
It didn't take long for the Hawks expand the lead even further. In the 69th minute,
Colleen Pikus launched a missile from 38 yards out that snuck in under the cross bar, just over the outstretched arms of the Drury keeper. Chloe Cash got the Panthers on the board in the 87th minute to cut the lead to 3-1.
Rockhurst outshot Drury 24-7 and had a 14-0 advantage in corner kicks.
McKenna Leetch led the Hawks in shots with seven.
Elle Guttmann added four shots, while Ostrander, Rometti, Pikus,
Meghan Schmidt and
Hannah Byrne all chipped in two shots.
With the win, the Hawks finish the regular season at 9-7-1 (8-5 GLVC). Rockhurst will be the No. 7-seed in the GLVC Tournament and travels to McKendree Sunday for a noon quarterfinal match. The semifinals and finals will be held in Louisville, Ky.
