No. 23 Lewis defeated the 14th-ranked Rockhurst Hawks 3-1 (25-20, 22-25, 25-20, 25-22) Saturday afternoon in Romeoville, Illinois.
Karli Reichert (18 kills and 13 digs) and
Alyssa Woodman (15 kills and 12 digs) both posted double-doubles for the Hawks.
Kalie Arnold recorded a team-high 36 digs.
Dani Prusha led the Hawks in assists with 27 and added 12 digs. Freshman setter
Gabbie Inman chipped in 19 assists and 11 digs.
Set One: Rockhurst 20, Lewis 25
The Flyers set the tone early, jumping out to a 10-2 lead. Rockhurst pulled back within two at 16-14 and 20-18, but never got any closer.
Set Two: Rockhurst 25, Lewis 22
The second set was tight throughout. Tied at 17, the Hawks rattled off a 4-0 run and hung on to take the set by three.
Set Three: Rockhurst 20, Lewis 25
The Flyers controlled the third set, opening up a 9-5 lead. The margin grew as large as eight at 16-8. Rockhurst pulled back within four with separate runs of 4-0 and 3-0, but Lewis held on to win by five.
Set Four: Rockhurst 22, Lewis 25
Lewis carried momentum into the fourth set, scoring seven of the first 10 points. Rockhurst battled back to even the score at 7-7. The set remained nip and tuck until Lewis surged ahead with a 4-0 run to take a 24-20 lead, which proved to be the knockout punch.
Player of the Match: Kalie Arnold. The senior libero from Topeka, Kansas brought her usual infectious energy, averaging nine digs per set.
