Weekend Preview: Hawks face Lewis in DII Volleyball Showcase

The Rockhurst Hawks, ranked 14th in the country, are on the road this weekend for a pair of matches. They take on Indianapolis (14-8, 7-3 GLVC) Friday at 6:00 p.m. Then the Hawks travel to Lewis (16-6, 7-3 GLVC) for a showdown with the 23rd-ranked Flyers Saturday at 3:05 p.m.

Taking on two 7-3 teams on the road in consecutive days is a tall task, but the Hawks - tied for first place in the conference at 10-1 - are hungry for wins to keep pace with Drury (20-3, 10-1 GLVC).

The match against Lewis in Romeoville, Illinois on Saturday has been selected for the NCAA DII Showcase. This fall, Division II launched a new regular season media agreement that consists of 11 football games, 18 basketball games and 6-10 other sports being distributed in a hybrid model that could consist of local TV, Facebook Live and other online distribution. The match can be seen on the GLVC Sports Network, in addition to the GLVC, Rockhurst and Lewis Athletics Facebook pages, Division II Twitter and @NCAADII on Periscope app.

Women's Soccer looks to keep rolling
After an impressive 2-0 showing at home last weekend, the Hawks (8-5-1, 7-3 GLVC) travel to Southern Indiana (8-5-2, 6-3-1 GLVC) Friday for a 5:00 p.m. kickoff. Rockhurst then visits first-place McKendree (11-2-1, 7-2-1 GLVC) Sunday at noon.

At 7-3, Rockhurst is currently tied for second place in the conference with Lewis (8-4-2, 7-3 GLVC). At 6-3-1, USI is part of a four-way tie for fourth place. With so many teams so close in the standings, the margin for error is razor thin with three regular season matches remaining.

Rockhurst junior forward Stephanie Ostrander is leading the conference in goals (10) and points (24). Sophomore midfielder Jillian Leetch ranks second in the league lead in assists (7).

Men's Soccer battles for conference tournament bid
At 4-4-2 in conference play, the Hawks find themselves in eighth place, battling for a conference tournament bid. They hit the road to take on first place Southern Indiana (10-2-1, 8-1-1 GLVC) Friday at 7:30. Rockhurst then travels to McKendree (8-4-1, 6-3-1 GLVC).

The Hawks' defense, anchored by seniors Sal Caruso and Swann Vincent, can keep them in any game. In order to make some noise down the stretch, they will need some breakthroughs in the attacking third.

Cross Country travels to Central Missouri
Fresh off their first place finish in the Haskell Invitational last week, the women's cross country team will be running in the Central Missouri Mule Run 6K on Saturday in Warrensburg, Missouri.

"The team is excited to compete in a competitive 6K before conference championships," says head coach Kathy Strecker.
