Free throws carry Lewis past Hawks

Jillian Myers led the Hawks with 19 points, four rebounds, four assists and five steals.

Lewis went on a 16-5 run in the fourth period to pull away for a 71-57 victory over Rockhurst Thursday in Romeoville, Illinois.

The Flyers made 11 of 15 free throws in the final nine minutes to hold off the Hawks. Lewis won the game at the foul line, hitting 24 of 32 foul shots compared to Rockhurst canning six-of-eight free throws.


Rockhurst rallied from a 14-point deficit to pull within four points, 51-47, with eight minutes left in the game. Briahtia Sebek scored eight points on a 14-4 run by the Hawks.


Jillian Myers led the Hawks with 19 points, four rebounds, four assists and five steals. Sebek scored 13 points on five-of-nine shooting. Madeline Ronshausen added eight points with two 3-pointers.


Rockhurst shot 36.7 percent from the field on 22 of 60 field goals. Lewis made 21 of 47 shots for a 44.7 percent field goal percentage.


The Hawks (7-9, 3-5 GLVC) play at Wisconsin-Parkside on Saturday.
