Box Score Freshman Quinton Curry scored a career-high 24 points to lead Rockhurst to a 77-74 victory over Illinois Springfield Thursday night in Springfield, Illinois.
Eddie Muench secured the victory by hitting all four of his free throws in the final 10 seconds after Springfield had cut Rockhurst's lead to two points in the final minute.
Rockhurst took a 17-point lead, 59-42, on a three-point shot by Travis House with 13 minutes left. The Prairie Stars proceeded to go on a 19-4 run over the next eight minutes.
Curry, who made 12 of 16 field goals, made a layup with 57 seconds left to give the Hawks a 71-65 lead. He finished with 16 points to help give the Hawks a 38-32 halftime lead.
Freshman Curtis Lewis posted 18 points, five assists and two steals. Alex Hagan collected eight points, 11 rebounds and two blocked shots. Muench added 10 points.
"That was a great road win for our team,"Â said Rockhurst coach Drew Diener. "I thought we played very well for the majority of that game. In the second half, Springfield got hot and made a run but we were able to answer with some clutch rebounding and free throws."
Rockhurst shot 56.6 percent from the field (30 of 53) and 83.3 percent from the foul line (10 of 12). Springfield made 27 of 61 field goals (44.3 percent) and 15 of 20 free throws (75.0 percent).
The Hawks (5-4, 2-1 GLVC) host Bethel College on December 16.
