Box Score

Freshman Eddie Muench sank a three-point shot at the buzzer to give Rockhurst a thrilling 89-87 victory in overtime over Washburn on Saturday at RU's Mason-Halpin Field House.

Muench got his shot off from 22 feet out from the left side with less than one second on the clock after receiving a pass from Undra Wilson.

The Hawks led the entire overtime period until Washburn's Javion Blake scored a four-point play with four seconds left to give the Ichabods an 87-86 lead.

Rockhurst battled back from a 54-36 deficit in the second half to take a lead 70-69 lead with 45 seconds left. Down nine with four minutes left, the Hawks went on a 10-0 run to take their first lead of the second half.

"I am so proud of our guys' resiliency today," said Rockhurst coach Drew Diener. "We found ourselves in a big hole in the second half and battled our way back by staying within the game plan. We had a lot of guys make great plays. It was really fun to see them battle when things were not going well; that is a sign of a winner.

"Ultimately, we made one more play than them. They have a really nice club."

Auston Rushing led the Hawks with 23 points while hitting seven-of-13 shots. Quinton Curry scored 22 points on 10-of-15 shooting. Curtis Lewis tallied 12 points. Alex Hagan posted 11 points and a team-high 13 rebounds. Muench added 10 points and Connor Evans corralled nine rebounds.

Rockhurst hit 50.0 percent on its field goals (33 of 66) and 53.6 percent from the foul line (15 of 28). Washburn made 32 of 61 field goals (52.5 percent) and 14 of 28 free throws (50.0 percent).

The Hawks (2-1) host Missouri Western Tuesday night.
