Box Score Washburn withstood a late rally by Rockhurst to eke out a 64-62 victory over the Hawks Friday night at Lee Arena in Topeka, Kan.
The Ichabods made two free throws with 10 seconds left to take a two-point lead. Senior guard Jillian Myers missed a game-winning three-point shot with one second left.
Rockhurst went on a 12-0 run in the final three minutes to tie the score at 62-all. Myers and junior guard Briahtia Sebek hit 3-point shots, while sophomore center Rachel Holden scored five points during the late run.
Myers led the Hawks with 21 points, four assists, two steals and two blocked shots. Sophomore guard Madeline Ronshausen posted 16 points, four rebounds and four steals. Sebek added 10 points and four rebounds. Holden added seven points and six rebounds.
Rockhurst shot 34.9 percent from the field (22 of 63) and 61.1 percent at the free-throw line (11 of 18). Washburn hit 22 of 50 shots (44.0 percent) and 10 of 15 free throws (66.7 percent).
The Hawks (1-1) host Central Christian at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
