Box Score The third-ranked Rockhurst Hawks opened the 2016 season with a 4-2 victory over Alderson Broaddus Thursday night at Bourke Field.
Senior forward
Mitch Moncada scored two goals to lead the Hawks to their first season-opening win since 2013. Moncada found the nets from six yards out to give Rockhurst a 1-0 lead in the 27th minute. He added his second goal on a 10-yard shot with 39 seconds left in the game.
Kaleb Jackson came off the bench to score off a pass from
Brian O'Neal in the 39th minute.
Gianluca Bottoni drilled a 20-yard shot off the right post to widen the lead to 3-1 in the 61st minute with an assist from
Chi Ngwefang.
Rockhurst outshot the Battlers, 20-11. Five players each tallied three shots for the Hawks.
Logan Feldmann posted three saves.
The Hawks (1-0) host 15th-ranked Fort Hays State on Monday at 2:30 p.m.
