Box Score Rockhurst's first appearance in the semifinals of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Men's Lacrosse Tournament ended with a 16-11 loss to Westminster College Friday in Grand Junction, Colorado.
The third-seeded Hawks fell behind 3-0 in the first 13 minutes and could never catch up to the second-seeded Griffins. Rockhurst (9-8) scored four unanswered goals in the second period to pull within one goal, 8-7, late in the first half.
Westminster jumped out to an 11-7 lead in the third period and led 13-8 less than three minutes into the fourth period. The Griffins end the game on a 3-1 run.
Michael Beckham led the Hawks with five goals.
Jake Martin and
Mason Pomeroy each posted two goals.
Peter Hummel and
Christian Schveninger also scored goals.
Rockhurst outshot Westminster 41-40. Beckham paced the Hawks with 13 shots. Martin and
Collin Fischer each posted seven shots.
Ian Meister won 14-of-13 faceoffs and had a team-high seven ground balls.
Alex Pfeil made eight saves.
