Hawks open season with 7-6 overtime win

Jake Martin led the Hawks with three goals and two assists.

Box Score Rockhurst opened the 2016 season with a 7-6 win in overtime at Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas. Freshman Mason Pomeroy scored the winning goal with an assist from Michael Beckham 77 seconds into overtime.

Jake Martin led the Hawks with three goals and two assists. Martin scored back-to-back goals in the second period to give the Hawks a 3-2 halftime lead. Martin's third goal gave Rockhurst a 4-3 lead early in the third period.

Beckham scored late in the third period to give the Hawks a 5-4 lead. Shea Radel put Rockhurst back in front at 6-5 with a goal in the final minute of the third period.

Rockhurst outshot Hendrix 34-24. Martin paced the Hawks with nine shots and five shots on goal. Christian Schveninger posted six shots and three shots on goal. Beckham added five shots and four assists. Pomeroy and Collin Fischer each had four shots. Fischer scored the Hawks' first goal.

Sophomore goalie Alex Pfeil posted nine saves and six ground balls. Ian Meister won 12 of 16 faceoffs.
