Hawks face USI Eagles in GLVC home opener

The Rockhurst Hawks (7-2, 1-1 GLVC) host the Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles (9-1, 2-0 GLVC) in their conference home opener at 5:15 p.m Thursday (January 7). Southern Indiana defeated the Hawks, 76-70, last year at Southern Indiana. The Eagles lead the all-time series, 10-4.

Junior guard Mary Dineen leads the Hawks in scoring (17.2). Dineen ranks fifth in scoring, first in 3-point field goals made (2.9), sixth in free throw percentage (86.2) and fourth in 3-point field goal percentage (51.0) in the GLVC. Sophomore guard Jillian Myers ranks first in steals (3.33), sixth in assists (4.44), tied for 17th in rebounding (6.0) and sixth in assist/turnover ratio in the GLVC. Senior forward Lauren Meyers ranks 16th in scoring (12.1) in the GLVC. Freshman forward Marisa Lowe is tied for ninth in 3-point field goals made (2.0) and 11th in 3-point field goal percentage (40.0). Junior center Haleigh Cindrich ranks third in blocked shots (1.56) in the conference. The Hawks are averaging 66.6 points per game. Rockhurst ranks first in 3-point field goals made (8.67) and tied for third in blocked shots (3.67) in the GLVC.

Haleigh Cindrich posted her first career double-double (11 points and 11 rebounds) to lead Rockhurst to a 77-63 victory over Oklahoma Panhandle State Saturday at Mason-Halpin. Mary Dineen scored a team-high 12 points for the Hawks. Dineen connected on six-of-nine shooting, including five-of-six from behind the 3-point line. Lauren Meyers posted 13 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Jillian Myers tallied five points, seven rebounds, five assists and two steals. Rockhurst shot 36.8 percent from the field (21 of 57) and 70.3 percent from the foul line (26 of 37).

The Screaming Eagles are coming off a 66-48 victory over Ferris State at the Bellarmine Classic on Dec. 20 Sophomore forward Morgan Dahlstrom led Southern Indiana with 15 points and seven rebounds. Junior forward Hannah Wascher leads the Eagles in scoring (14.7, 11th in GLVC) and rebounding (7.8, fifth in GLVC). Rick Stein is in his 17th season as USI's head coach.
