Hawks hope to get back into winning column

Jillian Myers leads the GLVC in steals.
The Rockhurst Hawks (11-7, 4-6 GLVC) meet the Missouri-St. Louis Tritons (7-11, 2-8) in a Great Lakes Valley Conference West Division matchup at 1 p.m. Saturday (January 30) in St. Louis. The Tritons won their last meeting, 60-47, at Rockhurst on Jan. 29, 2015. UMSL has won the last eight meetings and leads the all-time series, 16-7.

Junior guard Mary Dineen leads the Hawks in scoring (17.6, fifth in the GLVC). Dineen also ranks second in 3-point field goals made (2.7), fifth in 3-point field goal percentage (47.6) and third in free throw percentage (88.9) in the GLVC. Dineen currently has 1,063 career points. Senior forward Lauren Meyers stands 20th in scoring (11.9) and 17th in rebounding (5.9) in the GLVC. Meyers is 11 points away from joining the 1,000-point club.

Sophomore guard Jillian Myers ranks first in steals (3.3), second in assist/turnover ratio and sixth in assists (4.4) in the GLVC. Freshman forward Marisa Lowe ranks fourth in 3-point field goals made (2.5) and 11th in 3-point field goals percentage (39.8) Junior center Haleigh Cindrich ranks second in blocked shots (1.7) in the GLVC.

Rockhurst ranks first in 3-point field goals made (8.7), first in blocked shots (4.6), second in free throw percentage (75.3), third in turnover margin, fourth in field goal percentage defense (36.8) and fifth in 3-point field goal percentage (33.9) in the GLVC.

The Hawks could not overcome clutch free throw shooting by Maryville in falling to the Saints, 68-62, Thursday night in St. Louis. The Saints made 10-of-12 free throws in the fourth quarter while shooting 84.0 percent for the game (21 of 25). Dineen led the Hawks with 26 points behind eight-of-13 field goal shooting. Dineen drained four-of-five shots from behind the 3-point line. Meyers posted 13 points and 11 rebounds. Myers collected seven assists, six steals, six points and four rebounds. Cindrich added six points, five rebounds and three blocks.

The Tritons are coming off a 50-48 loss at home to William Jewell Thursday night. Senior forward Kelly Kunkel led UMSL with 12 points. Kunkel leads the Tritons in scoring (12.9, 14th in GLVC). Sophomore forward Jordan Fletcher ranks 29th in the GLVC in scoring (10.2). Junior guard Sydney Bloch ranks ninth in the GLVC in assists (3.4).
