Box Score A 20-0 run in the second half carried Rockhurst to a 75-60 victory over Grand View Saturday at Mason-Halpin Field House.
The Hawks rallied from a 54-47 deficit with 14:19 left in the game to score the next 20 points over a seven-minute stretch to take a 67-54 lead. Dominique Washington and Josh Roberts both hit 3-pointers while combining for 10 points over the 20-point run.
"I thought we responded well to their run in the second half," said Rockhurst coach Drew Diener. "We really defended well for the last 13 minutes of the game. That was a great rest prior to our league season."
Washington led the Hawks with 17 points and five rebounds. Washington connected on seven-of-14 field goals. Roberts scored a season-high 13 points on five-of-nine shooting. Adam Fatkin posted 12 points and seven rebounds. Malachi Nix collected eight points, four rebounds and three assists. Freshman Connor Evans added seven points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Rockhurst led 42-35 at halftime behind 54.5 percent field goal shooting. Grand View opened the second half on a 19-5 run.
Rockhurst shot 46.0 percent from the field (29 of 63) and connected on nine-of-12 free throws. Grand View made 22-of-57 field goals for 38.6 percent shooting. Nate Washington and Kerry Green paced the Vikings with 14 points apiece.
The Hawks, 6-4 overall, return to conference action at home against Southern Indiana on Thursday.
