Whitney Kostal dished 34 assists to power a balanced attack for 23rd-ranked Rockhurst as the Hawks opened their season with a 25-12, 25-11, 25-22 sweep of Cal Poly Pomona in the second match of the SpringHill Suites Invitational at the Alaska Airlines Center in Anchorage, Alaska.

Katie Loescher, to win in their tournament debut. The Broncos (0-1) were led by six kills from Deanna Blaine and 13 digs from libero Zoe Herrera.
After dominating the first two sets, Rockhurst found itself down 20-17 late in the third set before rallying for the sweep. The Hawks won the hitting battle .270 to .051 and outdug the Broncos 55-44.
Rockhurst has a quick turnaround with a 5 p.m. CDT match against host Alaska Anchorage (1-0). The Hawks face Azusa Pacific and fifth-ranked Nebraska-Kearney on Saturday.
