Box Score Colorado Mesa scored the last four goals of the game to pull way for a 14-9 victory over Rockhurst Sunday at Bourke Field. The win clinched the Western Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association championship for the Mavericks.
The Hawks cut Mesa's lead to 10-9 on a goal by
Michael Beckham with 11:19 left in the game. Mesa's David Solomon scored three consecutive goals to give the Mavericks a 13-9 lead with 4:13 left to play.
Rockhurst outscored Mesa 4-2 in the third period to reduce Mesa's lead to two goals.
Shea Radel,
Mike Boehm,
Jon Davenport and
Aaron Horvat netted goals for the Hawks in the third period.
Michael Beckham led the Hawks with two goals. Horvat added two points on one goal and one assist.
The Hawks outshot Colorado Mesa 45-43.
Jake Martin paced the Hawks with nine shots. Beckham added eight shots.
Ian Meister and
Peter Hummel each collected four ground balls.
Alex Pfeil posted 10 saves.
Rockhurst, 7-3 and 3-3 in the WILA, will host Missouri VAlley on Saturday, April 18.
