Rockhurst sweeps Saginaw Valley in NCAA opener

Box Score The seventh-ranked Rockhurst Hawks posted a 3-0 victory over Saginaw Valley State in a first-round match in the NCAA Midwest Regional Thursday in Big Rapids, Michigan. Rockhurst posted 25-13, 25-14 and 25-15 set wins over the Cardinals in the first match of the regional.

The Hawks (32-3) will play 20th-ranked Lewis in the semifinals of the Midwest Regional on Friday at 6:30 p.m. CST in Big Rapids.

"I thought we came out of the gate and passed well, and hit efficiently," said Rockhurst coach Tracy Rietzke. "We need to get off to a good start tomorrow against Lewis as well. We are looking forward to the challenge."

Mattie Gray led the Hawks with 12 kills and a .500 hitting percentage. Preecy Seever collected nine kills and a .500 hitting percentage. Morgan Rietzke added eight kills, three blocks and eight digs. Alyssa Arnold posted six kills and 12 digs. Anne Hellwege had a team-high 22 digs. Whitney Kostal finished with 37 assists.
