Hawks edge Truman State in conference opener

Mary Dineen led the Hawks 15 points and six rebounds.

Mary Dineen posted 15 points and six rebounds to lead Rockhurst to a conference-opening 56-55 victory over Truman State Thursday night in Kirksville, Missouri.

The Hawks overcame a 19-12 deficit after the first period to pull within 31-30 at halftime. Rockhurst outscored Truman 16-13 in the third period to take a 46-43 lead into the final stanza.

Kendall Hart posted 13 points and four assists. Jillian Myers tallied eight points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals. Haleigh Cindrich added seven points and five rebounds.

Rockhurst shot 38.6 percent from the field (22 of 57) and 45.5 percent from the free-throw line (five of 11). Truman State made 18-of-55 field goals (32.7 percent) and 14-of-22 free throws (63.6 percent). Brooke Bailey paced the Bulldogs with 13 points.

The Hawks, 5-1 and 1-0 in the GLVC, play at Quincy on Saturday, December 5.
