Rockhurst hosts 12-2 Haskell Indians

The Rockhurst Hawks (5-2) host the Haskell Indians (12-2) for the second year in a row at 1 p.m. today. The Hawks defeats the Indians, 60-54, last year at Rockhurst. Haskell plays in the NAIA's Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Junior guard Mary Dineen leads the Hawks in scoring (16.0). Dineen ranks seventh in scoring, sixth in 3-point field goals made (2.4) and tied for fourth in 3-point field goal percentage (48.6). Sophomore guard Jillian Myers ranks first in steals (3.7), fifth in assists (4.4) and third in assist/turnover ratio in the GLVC.

Senior forward Lauren Meyers ranks 22nd in scoring (11.1) and tied for 14th in blocked shots (1.0) in the GLVC. Freshman forward Marisa Lowe ranks tied for ninth in 3-point field goals made (2.0) and 14th in 3-point field goal percentage (40.0). Junior center Haleigh Cindrich ranks third in blocked shots (1.6) in the conference. The Hawks are averaging 65.7 points per game. Rockhurst ranks second in the GLVC in scoring defense (56.0) and 3-point field goals made (8.43).

Rockhurst suffered a 67-66 loss at Quincy on Dec. 5. Mary Dineen and Marisa Lowe led Rockhurst with 17 points apiece. Dineen made five-of-12 shots to go along with four rebounds and three assists. Lowe hit six-of-10 shots, including five-of-eight 3-pointers. Lauren Meyers tallied 16 points and eight rebounds. Rockhurst shot 36.4 percent from the field (20 of 55) and 77.8 percent from the free-throw line (14 of 18).

The Indians are coming off a 73-53 victory at Bethany (Kan.) Friday night. Sophomore forward Tyler Sumpter led Haskell with 17 points. Junior center Keli Warrior leads the Indians in scoring (12.3) and rebounds (7.4). The Indians are averaging 70.6 points per game. Shane Flanagan is in his fifth season as the head coach at Haskell.
