Dineen jumper gives Hawks 62-60 win over Haskell

Mary Dineen hit a 12-foot jump shot with 5.8 seconds left to give Rockhurst a 62-60 victory over Haskell Saturday at Mason-Halpin Field House. The Hawks survived a missed layup by Haskell with one second left to improve their record to 6-2 heading into the holidays.

Dineen led the Hawks with 22 points, four assists and four rebounds. She connected on eight-of-20 field goals, including four-of-10 3-pointers. Lauren Meyers posted 18 points, six rebounds, six steals and three assists. Jillian Myers collected a team-high 11 rebounds to go along with six points, five assists and two steals. Briahtia Sebek added seven points off the bench.

Haskell rallied from a 16-point deficit in the third period to take a 60-58 lead with 2:10 left to play. Meyers tied the score with a pair of free throws with 49 seconds left. The Hawks drained eight 3-pointers in the first half to take a 38-24 lead into halftime.

Rockhurst shot 33.8 percent from the field (24 of 71) and 30.3 percent from behind the 3-point line (10 of 33). Haskell made 21-of-54 field goals (38.9 percent) and 10-of-13 free throws (76.9 percent). Tyler Sumpter paced the Indians with 18 points and 10 rebounds.

The Hawks return to action at home on Jan. 2 against Oklahoma Panhandle State.
