Hawks meet Bearcats for first time since 2006

Jillian Myers leads the Hawks in rebounding, assists and steals.
The Rockhurst Hawks host the Northwest Missouri State Bearcats of the MidAmerica Intercollegiate Athletic Conference at 1 p.m. today. Northwest Missouri State holds a 11-9 lead in the all-time series. The Hawks have won seven of the nine meetings in Kansas City. The Bearcats won their last meeting back in 2006, 73-53 in Maryville.

Junior guard Mary Dineen leads the Hawks in scoring (21.0 ppg) and rebounding (4.0 rpg). Senior forward Lauren Meyers is averaging 11.5 points and 3.5 rebounds per game. Sophomore guard Jillian Myers is averaging 7.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 7.0 assists and 5.0 steals per game.

Dineen scored 14 of her game-high 24 points in the fourth quarter to lead Rockhurst to a 68-64 victory over 24th-ranked Wayne State at home Wednesday night. Dineen made eight-of-13 field goals, including five-of-eight 3-pointers. She also posted a team-high six rebounds and four assists. Meyers scored 12 points on five-of-10 shooting. Myers collected eight assists and five steals. Freshmen Brittany Meyer and Briahtia Sebek came off the bench to combine for 16 points and four 3-pointers. Rockhurst shot 43.3 percent from the field (26 of 60) and 100.0 percent from the free-throw line (five of five).

Northwest Missouri State is coming off a 58-44 loss to Quincy at home on Wednesday night. Senior guard Tember Schechinger paced the Bearcast with 15 points. Sophomore forward Tanya Meyer leads Northwest Missouri State in scoring (11.3). Schechinger is the team leader in rebounding (6.3). The Bearcats are averaging 50.0 points per game. Michael Smith is in his third season as the head coach at Northwest Missouri State.
