The Rockhurst Hawks meet the Washburn Ichabods for the 58th time in the all-time series today at 3 p.m. in Topeka, Kan. The Hawks won their last meeting, 48-47, last year at Rockhurst. Washburn (2-0) has won 13 of the last 16 meetings, and now leads the all-time series, 30-27.
"We play a very talented and well coached team," said Rockhurst coach
Drew Diener. "They play unselfish and execute their stuff. We have to play a great game."
The Hawks, 1-1, are led by freshman guard
Austin LeVan, who is averaging 15.5 points per game off the bench. Junior guard
Malachi Nix leads the Hawks with 7.5 assists per game while averaging 9.5 points per game.
Rockhurst rallied from a 15-point deficit to pull within three points before falling at Central Missouri, 77-71, on Wednesday. Rockhurst shot 55.6 percent from the field in the second half while outscoring the Mules 38-35 over the final 20 minutes. Malachi Nix led the Hawks with 15 points, eight assists, six rebounds and two steals. Freshman Austin LeVan scored 11 points off the bench. Adam Fatkin posted 10 points and four rebounds.
