Box Score Mary Dineen scored 14 of her game-high 24 points in the fourth quarter to lead Rockhurst to a 68-64 victory over 24th-ranked Wayne State Wednesday night at Mason-Halpin Field House.
Dineen hit her fifth 3-pointer of the game to give the Hawks a 66-61 lead with 16 seconds left. She added two free throws with three seconds to ice the victory. Dineen made eight-of-13 field goals, including five-of-eight 3-pointers. She also posted a team-high six rebounds and four assists.
Lauren Meyers scored 12 points on five-of-10 shooting. Jillian Myers collected eight assists and five steals. Freshmen Brittany Meyer and Briahtia Sebek came off the bench to combine for 16 points and four 3-pointers.
The Hawks rallied from a 25-14 deficit in the second quarter to cut Wayne State's lead to 35-32 at halftime. Rockhurst outscored the Wildcats, 15-11, in the third quarter to take a one-point lead into the fourth quarter.
Rockhurst shot 43.3 percent from the field (26 of 60) and 100.0 percent from the free-throw line (five of five). Wayne State made 22-of-53 field goals (41.5 percent) and 15-of-19 free throws (78.9 percent). Paige Ballinger paced the Wildcats with 23 points and six rebounds.
The Hawks, 2-0, host Northwest Missouri State on Saturday afternoon (1 p.m. tip).
