Box Score Five players scored in double figures to lead Rockhurst past Avila, 86-54, in the Hawks' season opener Friday night at Mason-Halpin Field House.
Mary Dineen led the Hawks with 18 points, three assists and three steals. Kendall Hart posted 14 points. Lauren Meyers collected 11 points, five rebounds and four blocked shots. Jillian Myers tallied 11 points, six rebounds, six assists and five steals. Freshman Marisa Lowe added 10 points.
The Hawks jumped out to a 19-15 lead after the first quarter and led 46-29 at halftime. Rockhurst outscored the Eagles in the second half, 40-25.
Rockhurst shot 43.5 percent from the field (27 of 62) and 88.9 percent from the free-throw line (24 of 27). Avila made 20-of-56 field goals (35.7 percent) and eight-of-15 free throws (53.3 percent). Raven Bunn paced the Eagles with 17 points.
The Hawks, 1-0, play their final exhibition game at Northern Iowa on Sunday before returning home to host Wayne State (Neb.) Wednesday night.
