Hawks are No. 1 seed in Midwest Region Crossover

The eighth annual Mizuno Midwest Region Crossover Volleyball Tournament, the nation's largest collegiate volleyball tournament, will be held at the Great Lakes Center in Aurora, Ill. on Oct. 16-17. The Rockhurst Hawks are the No. 1 seed from the GLVC and will play three matches against teams from the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and Great Midwest Athletic Conference.

The eighth-ranked Hawks (18-1, 9-0 GLVC) open play on Friday at 11:30 a.m. against third-seeded Hillsdale (13-3, 7-2 GLIAC). Rockhurst will face seventh-seeded Cedarville (10-8, 5-0 G-MAC) at 5:30 p.m. Friday and conclude play on Saturday at 1 p.m. against Ferris State, the top-seeded team from the GLIAC. Ferris State (17-1, 9-0 GLIAC) is ranked third in the AVCA Division II Top 24 poll.

Mizuno will once again serve as the title sponsor for the regional volleyball event which will pit 16 GLIAC volleyball teams, 16 institutions representing the GLVC and, for the first time in 2015, four programs from the G-MAC. Rockhurst posted a 2-1 record at the 2014 Crossover in Aurora. The Hawks are 14-7 all-time at the Midwest Region Crossover.

The two-day tournament will feature 54 matches conducted on nine courts at one of the top volleyball facilities in the country. The GLIAC will face the GLVC in 42 matches with each league facing G-MAC teams six times each. The conference that boasts the best combined record at the end of the event will earn the Crossover traveling trophy, which has been in the GLVC's possession the past five years.
