Rockhurst faces Carthage in home opener

Rockhurst fans will get their first up-close look at the Rockhurst men's lacrosse team when the Hawks host Carthage in their home opener at noon Sunday at RU's Bourke Field.

The Hawks (1-2) have been competitive in their first three road games. The Hawks lost at Hendrix, won at Fontbonne and fell at Missouri Valley while scoring 23 goals. Rockhurst has posted 95 shots and 65 shots on goal.

"Our work ethic is very good," said Rockhurst head coach Kevin Kelley. "Where we are lacking in experience and skills, we make up with our work ethic. We hope to translate that to the field."

The Hawks have been led offensively by Peter Hummel, Jack McDonough, Elija Gaea and Mark Blaise. Landen Wray and Grey Geisler lead the defense along with freshman goalie Zach McGuff.

"We are not putting emphasis on wins and losses this year, but in being competitors," Kelley said. "We are talking about building a foundation."
