Box Score The Rockhurst men's lacrosse team officially debuted Saturday against Hendrix College in Conway, Ark. The Hawks fell behind early on the way to a 14-5 loss to the Division III Warriors.
Hendrix jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first period, led 7-2 at halftime and took a 10-2 lead into the fourth period. The Hawks scored three goals in the fourth period. Hendrix posted 40 shots and 26 shots on goal, while Rockhurst took 20 shots and 12 shots on goal.
Jack McDonough scored the first goal in school history to put Rockhurst on the board in the first period.
Daniel Shovlain also scored in the first period for the Hawks.
Freshman
Peter Hummel scored two goals for Rockhurst in the fourth period, and Shovlain added his second goal.
Elijah Gaea and
Mark Blaise both picked up assists. Shovlain led the Hawks with four shots. Hummel, Blaise and McDonough each had three shots. Freshman goalkeeper
Zach McGuff recorded 13 saves and six ground balls.
Rockhurst will return to action on Tuesday in St. Louis against Fontbonne at 6 p.m.
