Box Score Misssouri S&T held off a strong second-half run by Rockhurst to defeat the Hawks 83-74 Saturday at Billy Key Court in Rolla, Mo. The Hawks have now lost their five games against S&T after Rockhurst enjoyed a 12-game winning streak in the series.
Rockhurst, which trailed 40-28 at halftime, rallied to pull with one point of the Miners on a
Brandon McCann jumper with 7:13 left in the game. A 10-4 run gave S&T a 68-61 lead with four minutes left.
"We made a nice run in the second half. Turnovers hurt us, along with giving up too many offensive rebounds," said Rockhurst coach
Bill O'Connor. "We had a lot of guys step up and play well for us."
The Hawks, 5-9 and 1-6 in the conference, shot 38.3 percent from the field (23 of 60) and 80 percent from the foul line (20 of 25). McCann led the Hawks with 26 points and six rebounds.
James Robinson scored 20 points and
Cooper Beckett collected 11 points.
Liam Duffy added nine points and five rebounds.
Rockhurst will host Truman State on Thursday, Jan. 23 at 7:30 p.m.
