Hawks open conference play with 2-0 victory

Mark Magee scored both of Rockhurst's two goals Friday night.
Box Score Senior forward Mark Magee scored two goals in less than a minute in the first half to power Rockhurst to a 2-0 victory over Missouri S&T in a Great Lakes Valley Conference opening game Friday night at RU's Bourke Field.

Magee scored his first goal of the season on a shot from 15 yards out in the 15th minute. Forty seconds later, Magee knocked in a penalty kick after the Miners were called for a handball foul in the box.

Rockhurst outshot Missouri S&T 18-5. S&T goalkeeper Matt Jackson stopped eight of the Hawks' shots. Magee paced Rockhurst with four shots. McDonald and Paolo Scoppola each finished with three shots. Sean Verbanic and Michael Panarisi added two shots apiece.

The Hawks, 2-1 and 1-1, return to action on Sunday at Drury in a 2:30 p.m. start in Springfield, Mo.
