Hawks end season with NCAA loss to top-ranked Grand Valley State

Box Score The Rockhurst women's soccer team saw their season come to end in the second round of the NCAA Midwest Regional. Unbeaten Grand Valley State scored four goals in the second half to defeat the Hawks 5-0 Sunday in Allendale, Mich.

Rockhurst held the No. 1-ranked Lakers to five shots and one goal in the first half. The Hawks nearly tied the score before halftime with four dangerous shots. Maria Merlo and Taylor Skala had shots that went over the goal. Jessica Cook and Kinsley Fitzpatrick missed shots just to the right of the goal.

Grand Valley (20-0-1) outshot Rockhurst 25-7. Skala and Fitzpatrick led the Hawks with two shots apiece. Freshman keeper Ali Wallner posted nine saves.

The Hawks finish the 2013 season with a 13-6-3 record after making their third consecutive appearance in the NCAA national tournament.
