Hawks fall at home to Missouri S&T, 69-65

A 12-2 run in the second half powered Missouri S&T to a 69-65 victory over Rockhurst Thursday night at RU's Mason-Halpin Field House. The loss drops the Hawks to 3-14 overall and 2-8 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference heading into a road game at Drury on Saturday at 5:15 p.m.

Brandon McCann's two free throws cut S&T's lead to 67-65 with 46 seconds left. After the Miners missed a shot with 16 seconds left, McCann misfired on a game-tying 15-foot jumper with 12 seconds left. S&T iced the game with two foul shots with six seconds left.

Rockhurst rallied from a 33-28 halftime lead to take a 48-42 lead on a three-pointer by David Wingerson at the 11:58 mark. The Miners hit a pair of three-pointers and scored four points off two steals to take a 54-50 lead with 8:25 left in the game.

McCann led the Hawks with 18 points on six-of-11 shooting. He scored 16 points in the second half. Brett Hornung, who fouled out with 2:43 left, finished with 12 points, three assists and two blocks. Liam Duffy scored 11 points while hitting three three-point shots. Cooper Beckett and Wingerson posted five rebounds apiece.

The Hawks shot 47.8 percent from the field (22 of 4) and 61.5 percent from the foul line (16 of 26). The Miners outrebounded the Hawks, 32-26.
