Box Score Illinois Springfield survived a late Rockhurst rally to post a 57-52 victory over the Hawks Saturday in Springfield, Ill. Rockhurst freshman
Kendall Hart missed a game-tying 3-pointer with 24 seconds left. The Prairie Stars made four free throws in the final 16 seconds.
Rockhurst trailed 51-35 with nine minutes left to play. The Hawks went on a 10-0 run inside the last five minutes to cut Springfield's lead to 53-50 with 1:14 left.
MaKayla Grahn hit two jumpers in the run. Hart,
Taylor Skala and
Kara McFarland added baskets during that stretch.
Hart led the Hawks with 19 points. She made seven-of-14 field goals, including four-of-eight 3-point shots.
Taylor Skala and
Melanie Siscos each scored eight points.
Kara McFarland posted a team-high 10 rebounds and five assists.
Rockhurst shot 35.7 percent from the field (20 of 56 field goals). Springfield connected on 21-of-53 field goals (39.6 percent). Rockhurst, 4-12 overall and 2-7 in the GLVC, return home to host Avila on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
