Hawks sweep doubleheader against Upper Iowa

Avery Huffman's complete-game victory on the mound and her three hits at the plate led Rockhurst to a 5-2 win in game one against Upper Iowa on Sunday at Loyola Park. Eva Fulk, Emily Berry, Taylor Sedam and McKenna Lester combined for 10 hits and eight RBI to push the Hawks to a 10-4 win in game two.

Game 1: RU 5, UIU 2
Rockhurst scored two in the second, one in the third and two in the fifth.
  • Huffman, Fulk and Emma Reeves combined for seven hits. 
  • Fulk doubled and had a team-leading three RBI.
  • Kaylee Pugh and Huffman both scored two runs. Sedam tallied a double and an RBI.
  • Huffman (9-7) allowed one earned run on five hits and struck out six batters. She also notched an RBI.
Game 2: RU 10, UIU 4
The Hawks recorded a run in the first, four in the second and five in the fifth.
  • Berry hit a solo home run and a two-run home run. She is up to five home runs on the season.
  • Sedam recorded two doubles and three RBI, while Fulk had two hits, an RBI and a stolen base.
  • Lester was 4-for-4 with a double and an RBI single, collecting her second four-hit game of the season and has a .427 batting average.
  • The trio of Fulk, Sedam and Berry each scored two runs.
  • Riley Braden (1-3) posted six strikeouts.
Rockhurst (17-14, 5-7 GLVC) faces Central Missouri on Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Loyola Park.
