The Rockhurst softball team opened the 2026 season with a 7-6 win in eight innings over East Central and a 10-9 loss to Midwestern State during day one of the Top Gun D2 College Classic in Mansfield, Texas.
Game One: RU 7, East Central 6 (8 innings)
An
Emily Berry sacrifice fly and
Lily Hance RBI-single gave Rockhurst a 7-5 lead heading into the bottom of the eighth. East Central scored a run in the bottom of the eighth, but the Hawks held on for the win.
- McKenna Lester led the Hawks in RBI with three.
- Lester, Eva Fulk and Jazmyne Moreno tied for the team lead in hits (two).
- Moreno (three) and Fulk (two) combined for five stolen bases. Moreno also led Rockhurst in runs scored (two).
- Avery Huffman picked up the complete-game win, allowing five earned runs and struck out 10.Â
Game Two: Midwestern State 10, RU 9
A late six-run sixth inning rally by Midwestern State lifted the Mustangs past the Hawks.Â
- Berry had a team-leading three hits and two RBI.
- Kaylee Pugh and Taylor Sedam combined for five runs scored and four hits.
- Sedam led the Hawks with two stolen bases.
- Riley Braden allowed six earned runs on 10 hits and struck out 11 in 5.2 innings pitched.
