Rockhurst Softball won 6-3 over Northwest Missouri on Saturday at the Top Gun Midwest College Classic in Shawnee, Kansas. This is the second win against Northwest Missouri in four days, as the Hawks also defeated the Bearcats, 3-2, last Tuesday at the Washburn Invitational in Topeka, Kansas.
Jayla Pierce hit her second home run of the season in the top of the second. An RBI single by Eva Fulk in the top of the third extended the Hawks' lead to 2-0.
After a sacrifice fly by the Bearcats to cut the Rockhurst lead to 2-1 after four innings, the Hawks scored three in the top of the sixth with an RBI single by Ceara Swason and a two-run single by Kaylee Pugh to go up 5-1.
Northwest Missouri scored two in the bottom of the sixth before a Claire Tipton sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh extended the Hawks' lead to 6-3.
Pierce collected an additional hit as Jazmyne Moreno, Emily Berry and Kerstyn Finch also recorded hits. Fulk, Finch and Moreno each recorded a stolen base. Riley Braden picked up her first win of the season and Anna Stephen collected her first save of the season.
The Hawks fell to Missouri Western, 7-4 on Saturday night in Shawnee. Tipton collected two hits, including her third home run of the season and three RBI.
Rockhurst (3-7) finishes the Top Gun Midwest College Classic with a rematch against Emporia State Sunday at 10 a.m. and a game against Washburn at 12:30 p.m.
