First-quarter shooting carries Bearcats past Hawks

Northwest Missouri State jumped out to an early lead in posting a 66-53 victory over Rockhurst Wednesday night in Maryviille, Missouri.

The Bearcats scored 20 points in the first quarter on 58.3 percent shooting to take a 10-point lead. Northwest took a 27-10 lead in the first three minutes of the second quarter.

Rockhurst ended the first half on a 13-7 run to cut their deficit to 34-23. The Bearcats outscored the Hawks, 32-30, in the second half.

Aubrey Treadwell led the Hawks with a career-high 14 points on five-of-eight shooting. Kayla Reis scored 10 points and hit a pair of 3-point shots. Tori Miller tallied nine points and six rebounds. Macie Conway made six-of-eight free throws and finished with eight points.
