Hawks end regular season with 4-1 win over Jewell

Anna Newcomer won her fifth game of the season to lead Rockhurst to a 4-1 victory over William Jewell in the second game of a GLVC softball doubleheader Saturday in the Kansas City Kansas Community College Softball Complex.

Newcomer (5-6) held Jewell to two hits over 6.0 innings while walking four and striking out five.

Jayla Pierce hit a two-run home run to center field in the fifth inning. Emily Berry singled and stole second prior to Pierce's eighth homer of the season.

Rockhurst scored two runs on two hits in the fourth. Cheyenne Minnick singled and scored on a wild pitch. Riley McGovern doubled and scored on an infield error.

The Cardinals edged the Hawks, 5-3, in the first game. Maya Gallagher singled home a run in the fifth and tripled in the seventh.

The Hawks (17-24, 12-14 GLVC) are currently in eighth place in the GLVC standings and await the announcement of the GLVC Tournament bracket Sunday night.
