Berry, Huffman lead Hawks to 8-0 road win

Emily Berry hit a three-run home run and Avery Huffman pitched a five-hit shutout to lead Rockhurst to an 8-0 victory over Southwest Baptist in the first game of a GLVC softball doubleheader Sunday in Bolivar, Missouri.

Berry broke an 0-for-9 hitless streak with her homer to left field in the first inning. Jayla Pierce hit a two-run home run in the third.

Kerstyn Finch doubled home a run in the fourth and Lauren Good added an RBI single in the fifth. Riley McGovern led the Hawks with two hits.

Avery Huffman (9-11) struck out five and walked three over 5.0 innings.

The Bearcats came back to win the second game, 9-1. Maya Gallagher hit a solo home run in the first inning.

The Hawks (16-22, 11-13 GLVC) will play a single game at home against Emporia State on Tuesday afternoon.
