Hawks fall short against 23rd-ranked Drury

The Rockhurst Hawks gave 23rd-ranked Drury all it could handle for 40 minutes before falling to the Panthers, 91-81, in the first round of the GLVC Women's Basketball Tournament Friday at the Hyland Arena in St. Charles, Missouri.

The Hawks (15-12) jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the first three minutes. The Panthers went on a 16-3 run to take a 16-12 and took a 25-19 lead into the second quarter.

Rockhurst scored nine unanswered points to cut Drury's lead to 64-60 with 50 seconds left in the third quarter. The Panthers made nine-of-13 free throws in the final two minutes to hold off the Hawks.

Keegan Sullivan led the Hawks with 26 points, including 15 in the second half, and grabbed nine rebounds. Ali Kamies posted 16 points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Akili Felici scored 11 points with three 3-pointers. Macie Conway collected nine points and four rebounds. Allison McFarren added seven points and four assists.

The Hawks shot 39.4 percent from the field (29-of-74) and 32.2 percent from behind the 3-point line (11-of-34).

Drury (24-5) made 32-of-66 field goals (48.5) and 20-of-28 from the foul line (71.4 percent). Beth Matas Martin led the Panthers with 21 points and seven rebounds.
