Hawks fall short at Fort Hays State

The Rockhurst softball team fell short against Fort Hays State in extra innings, 2-1, in game one of a non-conference doubleheader Wednesday in Hays, Kansas. The Tigers also won the second game, 2-0.

Fort Hays State scored on a walk-off sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth inning. The Tigers also scored on a sacrifice fly on the first inning.

Cheyenne Minnick tied the score with an RBI double in the seventh inning. Jayla Pierce opened the seventh with her second single of the game.

Anna Stephen (1-2) allowed two runs on five hits over 7.1 innings.

The Tigers held Rockhurst to two hits in the nightcap. Fort Hays State scored on a triple in the fourth and a single in the fifth.

Anna Newcomer (0-4) held the Tigers to two runs on five hits over 6.0 innings.

The Hawks (5-9) open conference play at home against McKendree at noon Saturday.
