RU women begin season with two second-place finishes

Karsen Bennett helped the Hawks win the 400 freestyle at Omaha on Friday

The Rockhurst women's swimming and diving team started the 2024 season with a pair of first-place finishes and two second places in Nebraska.

The Hawks fell to Nebraska-Omaha (192-75) in a dual meet on Friday night in Omaha. The Hawks fell to Omaha (174-86) in a quad meet in Fremont, Nebraska on Saturday. The Hawks defeated Midland (179-66) and Nebraska-Kearney (179-108).

Friday vs. Nebraska-Omaha

Rockhurst had one individual win on Friday, with Avery Walz winning the 200 individual medley. The 400 freestyle relay with the team of Laetitia Bouc, Reese Moore, Tauren Walz and Karsen Bennett took home first place.

Paige Sheridan came in second in the 500 freestyle and Bouc finished second in the 100 butterfly. Yara Elkoush was second in the 200 individual medley and Avery Walz claimed second in the 100 breaststroke. Liza Engelbrecht tallied a second-place finish in the 50 butterfly.

Engelbrecht finished third in the 50 backstroke. Avery Walz picked up a third-place finish in the 50 breaststroke, while Elkoush finished third in the 100 butterfly. Bouc also finished third in the 200 freestyle.

Saturday vs. Nebraska-Omaha, Midland and Nebraska-Kearney

The Hawks took home three wins in Saturday's quad. Sheridan won the 1000 freestyle and the 500 freestyle, while Avery Walz won the 200 breaststroke event.

Avery Walz also took second in the 100 breaststroke and Engelbrecht finished second in the 100 butterfly. Elkoush took second in the 200 butterfly, the 200 individual medley and the 500 freestyle.

Engelbrecht finished third in the 100 backstroke, Bouc took third in the 200 butterfly and Tauren Walz placed third in the 100 butterfly. Avery Walz finished third in the 200 individual medley.

Rockhurst took third in the women's 400 medley relay, including the team of Chiara Ambrosi, Avery Walz, Engelbrecht and Reese Moore.
