Rebounding proved to be the deciding factor as Missouri-St. Louis rallied for a 65-50 victory over Rockhurst Saturday afternoon in St. Louis.
UMSLÂ scored 10Â second-chance points while winning the rebounding battle, 44-23. The Tritons outrebounded Rockhurst, 24-11, in the second half.
The Tritons outscored Rockhurst, 12-2, over the final six minutes. The Hawks only had eight turnovers in the game but shot 12.5 percent from three-point range (one-of-eight) in the second half.
Ali Kamies led the Hawks with 13 points, three rebounds and one steal. The freshman guard connected on one-of-two 3-point field goals.
Keegan Sullivan scored 12 points on five-of-16 shooting and collected five rebounds. Rebeca Garcia added eight points and five rebounds. Allison McFarren collected six points and two assists.
Rockhurst hit 19-of-54 shots from the field (35.2 percent ). The Hawks scored seven-of-23 field goals in the first half (30.4 percent).
UMSL (9-12, 7-8 GLVC) shot 44.0 percent from the field (22-of-50). Jalysa Stokes led the Tritons with 17 points.
