Men open first season with dual meet at Jewell

The Hawks will be strong in the sprint events
The Rockhurst men's swimming and diving team officially hits the pool for the first time in school history Friday night with a dual meet at William Jewell College. Head coach Doug Schranck is excited to see the Hawks compete against outside competition.

"We have a handful of swimmers from Egypt, Brazil and from our region," Schranck said. "They have been working real hard and have been competitive in practice. I think several of them are capable of qualifying for the NCAA Championships."

The Hawks will be led by three international freshman swimmers. Omar Abla and Mohannad Nada are from Egypt. Abla is a freestyle swimmer, while Nada specializes in the breaststroke and individual medley. Alexandre Adum, who is from Brazil, will compete in the butterfly events.

"We are stronger in the sprint events," Schranck said. "We are pretty good in the breaststroke, butterfly and freestyle. We will be a team that will turn some heads and people will be surprised by what we will put up. The top end of our roster is very good. They are an ambitious group and are excited about the challenge."

Freshman Jonathan Davis from Blue Springs, Missouri is the strongest diver on the team.

"The meet at Jewell will be competitive. I think we can win several races," Schranck added. "We have a good schedule of meets lined up with good opponents which will help prepare us for the conference meet."
