Strong finish carries Jewell over Hawks

William Jewell rallied in the second half to pull away for a 72-66 victory over Rockhurst Saturday in Liberty, Missouri.

The Cardinals opened the fourth quarter on a 19-8 run to take a 67-57 lead with 3:02 left. Jewell shot 53.3 percent from the field in the final 10 minutes after shooting 35.6 percent in the first three quarters.

Rockhurst outscored Jewell 24-16 in the second quarter to take a 39-31 halftime lead. The Cardinals won the second half by a 41-27 margin.

Daly Sullivan led the Hawks with 16 points. The senior guard scored 12 points in the second half. Keegan Sullivan scored nine of her 12 points in the first half.

Monika Faerber posted 10 points, 10 rebounds and three assists. Ella Wedergren tallied nine points and two steals. Molly Hummel finished with eight points and three blocks. Lani Thompson added seven points and five rebounds.

Rockhurst scored 38 points in the paint while shooting 42.6 percent from the field (26 of 61). The Hawks ended the season with an 8-12 record.

Jewell, 12-10, made 24-of-60 field goals (40.0 percent). Kiara Bradley led the Cardinals with 25 points and 15 rebounds.
