The Rockhurst Hawks suffered two narrow defeats Monday in Florida, falling to Northwood, 3-1, and Lock Haven, 3-2.
The Hawks struck first in game one when
Calli Wibbenmeyer doubled home
Jaden Santoni in the top of the first. Northwood pitcher Shayna Frank settled in and kept the Hawks off the board the rest of the way. The Timberwolves scored all three of their runs on a home run in the third inning.
Wibbenmeyer had three of Rockhurst's five hits in game one.
Lexie Storrer battled in the pitcher's circle, striking out six in six innings.
Game two was a similar story with the Hawks taking a first inning lead.
Payton Staggs scored the game's first run when
Maya Gallagher drew a bases loaded walk. Santoni would double the lead, coming around to score as
Lauren Marks put the ball in play on a fielder's choice.
Lock Haven scored three in the third inning, then it was all zeroes the rest of the way.
Staggs and Marks each collected two hits in game two.
Paige Renner gave the Hawks five strong innings out of the bullpen.
Rockhurst is back in action Tuesday for two more games
in the Sunshine State, before opening up conference play Saturday at Missouri S&T.
