No. 22 Hawks hit the road for pair of GLVC games

Caroline Romme and the Hawks put their undefeated record on the line this weekend at SBU and Drury.

The 22nd-ranked Rockhurst women's soccer team continues GLVC action this weekend, traveling to Southwest Baptist (Friday, 4:30 p.m.) and Drury (Sunday, 12:00 p.m.).

The Hawks have been in good form thus far, winning each of their first five matches, including 3-0 in conference play, to move into the national rankings for the first time this season. Coach Greg Herdlick's club has scored two or more goals in every match this season. Defensively the Hawks have held opponents to one goal or less in four of their five contests, including two shutouts.

It's been a true team effort for Rockhurst early in the season. The Hawks have shown great balance as 10 different players have scored. Four players are tied for the team-lead with two goals -- Jillian Leetch, McKenna Leetch, Stephanie Ostrander and Hannah Byrne.

The Hawks have created scoring chances with good spacing and unselfish ball movement. Jillian Leetch and Cathy Rometti have been instant offense off of corners and free kicks as well.

Veteran defenders Rometti, Colleen Pikus and Caroline Romme have started every game and held strong in front of Rosie Breheny and Megan Meyers in net.

Southwest Baptist enters Friday with a record of 2-2-1 (1-2 GLVC), while Drury heads into the weekend at 1-4-1 (1-2 GLVC).
